Laboratory History
The UPIITA Transdisciplinary Laboratory emerged as an academic and research initiative aimed at strengthening innovation, technological development, and the training of high-level human resources at the National Polytechnic Institute.
The origin of this space dates back to August 26, 2023, when the project was presented to the then Director of UPIITA, M. en C. Ramón Herrera Ávila, with the purpose of establishing a laboratory that would integrate academic and research activities within the aerospace context. In that first meeting, the space where the laboratory is currently located was also suggested.
Subsequently, on December 14, 2023, academics M. en C. Gabriela Aurora Yáñez Casas and M. en C. Jesús Enríquez Gaytán formalized the request for a physical space through a letter addressed to the Directorate, proposing its location on the right side of the Student Support Center (SSC).
Official authorization arrived on January 8, 2024, through document DIR/UPIITA/007/2024, in which the Director approved the creation of the laboratory and the requested location, highlighting its benefit for students and research projects in the aerospace field.
Today, the Transdisciplinary Laboratory has established itself as an academic space focused on research, technological development, and innovation. Its team is transdisciplinary in nature, incorporating undergraduate and graduate students from various engineering areas, such as industrial robotics, aeronautics, mechatronics, telematics, communications, electronics, and computer systems. Likewise, graduate students from programs such as the Master's in Advanced Technologies and the Doctorate in Advanced Technologies (UPIITA), the Master of Science in Telecommunications Engineering (ESIME Zacatenco), and, as of August 2025, the Doctorate in Robotic and Mechatronic Systems (UPIITA) also participate.
The laboratory encourages student participation in activities ranging from basic and applied research to the development of technological projects, scientific publications, patents, conferences, and academic events. In this way, it stands as an environment that promotes collaboration, innovation, and the training of professionals capable of facing the challenges of scientific and technological development at a national and international level.
